Don't know if i've posted this in the right section so i've posted it in law aswell. A very very stupid friend of mine was claiming job seekers allowance and council tax benefit while working as a dj (self employed) for a number of years. The benefit agency have caught up with him and he is being prosecuted for benefit fraud and tax avoidance and rightly so. The total amount he owes is £15,000. Friend is now hardly working as bookings for parties have dried up so there is hardly any money coming into the household. Friend is a single man with no children living with him, he has a mortgage for his own house. Friend knows he could go to prison for what he did, but can they make him sell his house to pay the money back or will they just accept whatever he can afford. Thank you

Maybe he should sell up and look for something smaller or rent for a while so he can pay off the money, although that may take some time.
Anyway, has he got a solicitor defending him who can advise?
