my father is invited to the same place as another party in a criminal matter what happens if they do not know that the other is going to be in same vecinity

well, obviously you know and perhaps you should tell your dad if he is not aware. it wouldn't be wise for them to meet as it could lead to all sorts of complications and potentially further criminal charges if one party decides to tell their brief/court that it was an attempt at harassment etc. not a good idea (imho) x
Provided neither has bail conditions which stipulate that one must not contact or approach the other there is nothing to prevent them meeting. However, complications could arise if it was established that they discussed the matter or if one tried to exert influence or intimidate the other. You say they are both "parties" to the matter but what are their respective roles in the proceedings?
New Judge is correct as usual , but i would strongly advise your Dad not to go , just in case the other side decide to try to take advantage of the situation in court.
