Hi there, just a bit confused.
My ex has been charged with 3 counts of GBH against me and we have a trial date. The police called me and said it was nothing to worry about but the defence are asking questions through the CPS if I had ever reported my boyfriend before my ex of violence to the police. The relationship ended over fourteen years ago!! and yes it was voiltile but I've always said that but never did I report him and even though I haven't seen him for ten years I've spoken to him occasionally on the phone and we are certainly not friends but cordial. The police sounded pleased but they said they'd do a check on it which is no problem for me as I'm telling the truth.
Also apparently they wanted to see my divorce petition against my boyfriend b4 my ex, I told them the truth again that we were never married. It just all seems strange why these questions are coming from the defence or am I getting myself muddled? Would it be from the CPS after they'd seen what my ex was trying to use as a defence? (The trial is schedulded for Sep.) Why would they want details of this relationship which ended years and years ago. My ex has never had any contact with my previous boyfriend by the way. Thanks, advice would be appreciated.

I think it is the defence asking these questions: if you had previously reported a boyfriend to the police, then the defence could use this to undermine your credibility.

I think that's why they wanted this information.
The defence are looking to see if you have a history of reporting violence from previous partners. It is normal procedure. If for example you had reported violence from a previous partner but the allegations had been disproved , that would be a factor for your ex's defence in this case.
The CPS simply decide to bring the case to court or not, they have no part in the trial.
Your ex has a solicitor and that soliciotor has a duty to defend his client , this is just a normal part of that duty.
You have nothing to worry about this type of question gets asked in every domestic violence trial. As I said part of the normal procedure to get the full story of the incidents.
