Jury Summons - Have not responded in time?

Hi,

I have been summoned to my local crown court for jury service in August.
I received the letter about two weeks ago.

I only realise now that they give you 7 days from the date you receive the letter to complete the forms and respond.

Does anyone know what I can do now that I'm outside of the 7 day period.
I am in full time employment and my employer has said I can have the time off work for as long as is required by the court.

Any information or advice on this subject would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Is there a phone contact number or email that you can make contact and to apologise giving your reason why it is late and do they want you to still complete and attend. I would think that's all you can do.
Not much you can do now but fill it in and send it back. Wait and see what they say.
i would just reply as usual and don't worry! they/you can't control the post! x
I wouldn't worry, what if you were on your holidays, you could be gone for 3 weeks.

Thanks - that's what I thought.

Does anyone know if the employer should pay you whilst doing jury service? Or do I have to go through the system of what allowance the govt. will provide me?

Thanks again
depends on the employer, some pay some don't. When I went I was expected to claim the expense payment. My employer then deducted that from my wages so I didn't lose out.
I didn't get paid from work but the expenses covered my wages, I had to complete a form and I think my emplyer had to verify the wage. But it was in the late 90s so may be wrong. I know I was able to clain for public transport costs.
Same as Ann, ( 1998 ).
My employer paid my wages as usual for the two weeks I was there, but it depends on your employers policy.

BTW I dont think your Employer can refuse to let you go unless they have VERY good reason.
Fill it it in anyway or you could be charged with failure to comply with jury service. I had one a few years back had to phone the court at 4pm everyday to see if I was going to be needed the next day. In the end I did not have to attend as the previous trial was still going on.

thanks all
don't see how the time limit is enforceable legally - what happens if you were away on holiday/in hospital/on another planet. Fill it in with a reason for the delay (I hadn't realised I had to reply in such a short time?) - what are they going to do - send you to the tower?
Why not just do it????
