Does the law still exist where an Inn must supply upon demand and free of charge a glass of tap water and a copy of the day's newspaper?

There is law concerning the provision of tap water with meals but newspapers being provided otherwise than by convention; hotels sometimes offer the morning paper free, presumably because they get the particular one free themselves because it acts as a promotion for the publisher; is not law and there's no obvious reason why it should ever have been. Newspapers were not cheap years ago; that is before the likes of Lord Northcliffe came along; and were sometimes taxed as well. They were also not common .

I was told by a Scottish lady that pubs there are not allowed to refuse you a glass of tapwater or the use of the toilet.

The pub can charge for the use of the glass and I have NEVER heard of the newspaper one .
