You should be aware that the CICA scheme to which ummmm has kindly provided the link depends on you applying for compensation. When your assailant is convicted by the court the prosecutor should ask for compensation for your injuries. Page 165 of this document:

explains this process and also includes a scale of suggested compensation for various injuries. You should bear in mind that one of the considerations the court must make is the defendant’s ability to pay. If he has little means or exists on benefit’s any order made by the court will be payable at the rate of £5 per week.
