Orlando Shooting: How Do You Get Denied A Gun In Florida?
http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ news/wo rld-us- canada- 3652257 0
Interesting part from the ink above ::::
Florida has no law requiring background checks of any kind if a private individual - as opposed to a licensed gun shop - sells to another private individual. This is often referred to as a "gun show loophole".
"If you go to a gun range and the guy next to you says, 'Oh, I love your gun,' you can sell it to him without going through a background check "
With a loophole like this, what chance is there for any sensible gun control legislation in the future ?
I am half-way through reading Paul Theroux's new book..."Deep South"
In it he describes exactly this sort of thing when he attended Gun Shows....
if you can can just buy a gun, legally, off a man in the street, what possible use are any official State gun laws ?

Just advice AOG...take it or leave it. It's just that when people do the same to you, you complain. This is a very a very neutral thread, and doesn't need to be turned into one about Muslims or personal digs. We have an abundance of those.

As I have said many times before, with circa 400m guns floating around the USA you have no chance. Even if you made a law now there would be so many still available even if illegally that the law would be pointless. All you succeed in doing is disarming the law abiding therefore increasing the risk to them. And that is the quandary the USA has. Can you imagine banning legal guns only for the news to hightlight, probably almost daily, some innocent being shot?
The USA is massive, land wise. It would be totally impossible to police outside of the main cities.

And when the Chinese decided to build a wall to keep out the hostiles including the Mongols, I'll wager some said one had no chance; it was too large a border, they'd only go around the side, it would only stop locals from going where they wanted, it was pointless.
One only makes progress by trying. There is no overnight solution but if countries without responsible practices could at least make the effort one can eventually turn the tide. (And those who already have responsible policies would feel the effect of a reduced number of privately owned firearms that could be smuggled into their country.)

I believe that the type of gun used in the killings is illegal for the general public to keep in the USA.
Yet Canada where at the moment it can be used on official rifle ranges, providing that the owner keeps it locked up in a secure unit and is only allow to carry it on a set route to and from the range, but there are now steps being taken to allow them to be used for moose and stag hunting.

You're trying to turn this thread into a personal dig at mikey4444. ///
So far I have made just one comment aimed at your friend mikey, and since he is the author of this particular thread, I am sure others will also aim their comments against him.
But I should not worry about mikey too much because he is used to taking the flack just as I am.
Perhaps you would care to follow your own advice and agree with everyone else, and no longer take a dig at anyone?
Incidentally your 'pot shot' at me missed, have another go.
