I know some ABer's will knock me but....
What the hell has happened to Police standards?

Had a (very welcome) delivery of food donated from our very own Stoke on Trent police force to our foodbank today.
A single police car reversed into our drive and out came two police officers. (No, I didnt recognise them before any wag asks)

But was immediately struck by a very large, roly poly police woman who must have weighed at least 20 stone, and a schoolboy (or what looked like a schoolboy) in police fancy dress.

Are there no standards for joining the police today?
Ive had my issues with Danny and Retrocop etc on here re: policing but surely...they must agree that policing has gone down the pan.
A fat female and a schoolboy trying to arrest a violent offender?? Would love to have seen them two been called out to an emergency without backup.

(And before anyone comments, Im not anti-police...)

isn't it a sign of getting old, thinking policemen look like school children?
lol bednobs, you're not wrong.

When I'm arrested, however, I'd much sooner a kid tried to do it than have a fat woman (or man) sitting on me.
Nails it's a shame you don't have a TV because you have missed out on the brilliant 'Cops Like Us'
Following officers from Staffordshire’s overstretched police force as they talk candidly about the frustrations of being on the beat in one of the UK’s most deprived cities - Stoke-on-Trent.

Not many roly polys or schoolboys on that.
Ok, the fat lady might not be able to chase down a criminal, but perhaps she’s got good negotiating and persuading skills? :/
I do hope you gave them a ticking off.
Police standards have dropped, like it or not...that's a fact.
If 'standards' have dropped, maybe it's to do with the stringent cuts that police forces are having to deal with, up and down the country.

Those that are left in service have found their roles radically changed, rather like teachers, who now do so much more than teach.
I'm quite shocked by your fattist, ageist attitude Nailit. Discrimination based on appearance for example, is long gone thankfully.

Far from having gone down the pan, its actually a sign that the police force is far more inclusive than it was in at one time.
Are are there any professions where you consider it OK to have low enough standards to accept fat women?

TV cooks.
Nursing has made great strides in that respect, Maydup.

I marvel at larger health professionals and their ability to keep a straight face when suggesting I could lose a pound or two.

Transport has some stars too.
Nailit, what a nasty piece of work you can be sometimes. Try judging people on actions rather than appearances. These two coppers just delivered a charity donation to your food bank and all you can do is critique their appearance.

You should be ashamed.

First off, it wasnt from them, it was from their collegues.
Second Im not critiqueing their appearence.
Thirdly, Im asking a question....
namely, what happened to police standards?
"But was immediately struck by a very large, roly poly police woman who must have weighed at least 20 stone, and a schoolboy (or what looked like a schoolboy) in police fancy dress."

But you weren't criticising their appearance?
PS when the police start looking young its said to be a sign of old age.
// A fat female and a schoolboy trying to arrest a violent offender?? //

oh god Nailit - you didnt turn violent at the end did you Nailit
(cdnt bear it any longer and lashed out etc )
I have noticed myself, that nurses.and midwives especially, seem to be very overweight often. But- it depends on the work they do, whether they need to be physically fit or not. There are different jobs for different people....
// But was immediately struck by a very large, roly poly police woman who must have weighed at least 20 stone,//

OK you were squeeshed by the hippopotamus - but what did she LOOK like ( we can imagine what it felt like) ter daaah again !

No, not at all.
Making an observation.
Not the same thing..
