Of course I don't think anybody has ever enquired what sort of "retirement" package she received when she left the Met in 2015 to join the Foreign Office. Quite why it was seen necessary to re-engage her two years later is anybody's guess. Oh! Hang on though !!!

You are right that Cressida Dick is to blame. She is so compliant to the Government (she worked for them at the FO) that she happily obeys her masters despite dwindling funds and dwindling manpower.
But you don’t get gongs and honours for sticking up for Police Officers and the safety of the public, you get made a Dame for doing as you are told and making budget cuts.
