Hi,

I have just been caught speeding and it will be 12 points!
Ihave been driving since 1985, and only received these points in the last 3 years. My last was the fastest at 36 in a 30!!

I drive for a living all over the Uk, and this could mean losing my Job. My wife recentley had a miscarriage and we'd planned to go on holiday, but this too will not happen if I'm banned.

I know I was wrong to speed, but 6 miles faster?! Please does anyone know what is likely to happen, as I really don't need this after the year we've had.

Thanks

I think for 36 you should be offered a training session rather than 3 points.
I feel sorry for you, it is more a lottery than any serious attempt at improving road safety.

No doubt some one will say you broke the law and deserve it, but they probably drive so close to the vehicle in front of them they are the dangerous ones!
it dosent mean that you will receive a ban,get someone to speak for you and tell them it would mean losing your job etc etc.they could just fine you.
and if you dont get banned, invest in a road pilot or road angel speed camera detector.

Thanks all, it makes me feel a bit better knowing Im not on my own, seeing these cameras as a "lottery".

Since the last fine, I have more gadgets @ Gizmos on my windscreen it's beginning to look like the Enterprise! Is this safe?

I know I may not get a long ban, but does anyone know of these websites offering legal help, whether they are any good or just trying to take more money off me?

Thanks again for the replies

I agree with mdoo98. We all know the speed limits for the various types of road in the UK, yet people moan when they get caught. 30 means 30, not 32.5, not 36. Adding in the fact that 12 points have been accumulated is even worse, did you not think after getting to 9 points, that your bad habit was doing you no good?
No excuse for speeding, no sympathy for someone who has managed to speed so often 12 points has arrived.
furrycheeky is right. I was stopped by the police for speeding in 1961. I hope to go another 45 years before it happens again. If I can go that long, anybody can.
the law is stupid and out of date, the highway code stopping distances was made years ago when cars had wooden brakes the quality of some cars nowadays should be taken into consideration, however it rarely is so here is a company i got it off the right hand side of this page so look about and you'll probably find more, in either case get some legal help and tell them your circumstance
The country is infested with these 'safety cameras'
( hollow laugh )and ordinary drivers like yourself are now picking up points. The brigade who rant about 30 meaning 30 etc. etc. don't live in the real world and probably toodle down to the shops for a few buns every other day in their nissan micra so the reality of modern driving is not really an issue for them. I am tooled up with the latest hi-tech gear to protect my licence and have never had an accident or penalty points in my life. Good luck to you Worralblade I hope it goes ok for you.
You know Wduck when cars had "wooden brakes" very few could do the speeds that even todays' Skodas are capable of and I don't think reaction times have gotten any faster.

But the real bit that needs fixing is ultiple offenses omn a single journey - you can drive from London to Manchester and start with a clean license, trip 4 cameras and end the journey with a ban.

It may be the law but it's not just in any sense of the word
I agree with Loosehead, retraining rather than points would seem the common sense approach . Hope it all goes well, God knows how im not in yhour position!

Hi,

I was asking for help, not Judgement. I know I was over the speed limit, but by so little. If I was doing 50 in a 30, past a school, fair cop....I drive 3000 miles a month, for the last 20 years and I get points in the last 3 years?!
Have suddenly become an "evil" law breaker overnight, or is it revenue raking?? People HIDING in the back of Transit Vans?
Grunty, thanks for your input...I am sure i've been stuck behind you a few times, concentrating on your dashboard rather than your surroundings. I do not speed as a thrill, I am a normal 40 year old guy, trying to get by hard times at home without the added pressure of losing my livelyhood!

Thanks to all the others, I will look into legal help.
Hey mate, I did have a van driving job, i was still in my 2 years probation on my license and already had 3 points. I got caught in my van doing 54mph in a 40mph zone. whoops! I hate them bloody mobile speed cameras. Sneeky buggers. any way, i pleaded guilty at court, but told them that my livelyhood depended on it as i was starting a home of my own, bla bla bla. Any way, i ended up getting the 3 points put on to my license after the 2 year probation and a 300 fine. try that if all else fails. Good luck mate, Gary
