GBH With Intent Sentence?

Hi all, I am trying to find out the sentence that someone would get for GBH with intent? My cousin was attacked for no reason and had his throat slit as he tried to walk away from the attacker, (this was 7 years ago) he still has a prominent 12" scar from his adams apple to the back of this hairline, the attacker has recently been caught and is going to plead guilty to GBH with intent. from what we know he has quite a lot of previous and recenly was aqquitted for stabbing someone in the head with a fork in a restaurant. Will he get a custodial sentence for this offence? any ideas?

Sorry Norman this is "with intent" he could get life!

He will absolutely get a custodial sentence

In 2003 the minimum sentence anybody got for this was 6 months, the maximum was life and the average was 50 months.

He's pleading guilty but there's a lot of previous convictions and with weapons too.

You can probably use the above information to make a pretty good guess

Hopefully not, especially with the pledge to send "violent" criminals to gaol. Unfourtunately, judges never hand out the maximum sentences, he might get 8 or 9 years.
