cbr checks for NHS university nursing training

can i get a job in nursing if i have shoplifting on my cbr? it was 12 months ago, never had any other history of criminal acts, made 1 mistake, would be greatful for any responce x thankyou!!

if you have a crb check it will show up,whether your prospective employer overlooks it and gives you a job or place is up to the criteria laid down,i would explain it all in writing,when applying,so they know before the crb comes back.

I know of a nurse with a conviction for benefit fraud and it hasn't affected her job, so shoplifting probably won't stop you from nursing as long as you are open about it when they ask you. Convictions for anything like assault, drugs offences or any sexual offence would though.

Although benefit fraud is slightly diffirent from theft, obviously still theft but you know what I mean. Theft of property could be something that could happen in a nuirsing environment where as bene fit fraud would not be an issue. Depending on the type of nursing job and the setting you may find you have some trouble especially as it is a fairly recent conviction. I think you will find problems especially if you want to work where you will have access to money, personal posessions (for example if you were to go for a post in a nursing home).

Best to be as honest as possible on your appliation form and at your interview, if you don't let on and it comes back on your crb, chances are you'll be sacked.

bunny, am exactly in the same position as you. I can't sleep at times worrying whether my training has a dead end or something am a second year in my nurse training. The best I can tell you is to declare it as I was sacked form a job a month and a half ago as a carer when my crb came as I had not declared the caution . The caution is from 2003 and very much appears on the crb. Declare it when they offer you a position before you start working.

If you're asking about being able to start your nurse training at university, then answer is yes. You will be required to have a CRB check but unless it's anything dangerous then you'll be allowed into university.

As for getting a job after training, I cannot imagine shoplifting would affect your chances. I'm a student nurse and we're told that unless our criminal records include things that make us a risk to others, then it's fine.

The only bad thing about yours is that was only 12 months ago, not long enough to say you were young and stupid or whatever. Don't be scared of ringing up and asking directly if this conviction would affect your chances of employment though.
