The problem is that all convictions remain on PNC (the Police National Computer) indefinitely. So, although under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 you don't have to declare the conviction, the CRB blindly discloses everything on PNC. It wasn't supposed to be this way and I'm assured that it's being looked at at the highest level with a view to levelling the proverbial playing field, but I'm afraid we're stuck with it for the moment. Sorry!
