Can you go to the Maldives with a criminal record?

My partner has a criminal record, and when we went to America he had to get a visa from the American embassy before he could travel.

We are now thinking of going to the Maldives, and wondered if he would need a visa before he could travel.

I have looked on the internet, and I don't think he will need one, but I want to be sure before we book anything.

(I know that the Maldives requires everyone to get a travel visa once they arrive, just unsure how it works if you have a criminal record)
