car insurance

I insure my car for my son to drive.He was pulled up a couple of nights ago and the car confiscated because they could not find details on the pnc.I took the documents to the police station and they checked them and stamped the form,but on going today to pick up the car and pay fees another police officer notice that on the insurance certificate one of the numbers on the reg has been written wrongly now they are considering charging for having no insurance and we cannot have the car back incurring further charges daily.Surely they can see its a genuine error as they didnt even spot it the first time.They also informed me that some insurance companies dont submit details to their pnc.Any help please
