My step son was arrested this evening for criminal damage to school property (goal posts) and a further offence of damage to 13 cars. He has admited to the goal posts but not the cars. The police searched his room and took the clothes he was wearing that evening and have bailed him for 3 weeks. Any idea what the sentence will be for either or both the offences?

How old is he?

Does he have similar or unrelated previous?

What is the estimated amount of damage?

Without this information, it is impossible to say.
The prisons are getting too full to keep throwing people in, as you might of heard they are throwing perves out of prison they are that full!! So he might be lucky and get a fine or comunity service, maybe a suspended sentence.
Peter Perves was in prison!!??

(sorry)
whos peter perves?
Ha ha Peter Purves was a Blue Peter presenter about 100 years ago (when I was back at school!).

How old is your step-son? How exactly is he supposed to have damaged the cars?

Did he go down the road deliberately kicking wing mirrors or 'keying' cars? Did he try to break into them? Did he kick the panels in?

If he did any of the above, he should be locked up although I know that this is unlikely to happen. I have been on the receiving end of such damage - just because I live in a terraced street and it's easy to go down the road kicking cars - and its not fair. Us lawful people either lose our no-claims on our insurance or end up out of pocket paying to repair the damage.
i agree cheekychops, that happend to a bunch of people down my mums road on xmas eve. it was a couple of **** heads all damaging the cars i think they got every car in her road. people who do that stuff should be punished but like i said the prisons are full!
If he continues to deny any damage to cars he will be ok, proving criminal damage is not easy, they won't be finger printing the cars, the clothes will have a quick examination for shards of glass... paint etc...

If he is found guilty most likely will get a fine for damages and a community order of some kind.

Sorry I should have said he is 15. The damage to the cars is broken wing mirrors and other damage - the police didnt say what. They have taken his clothes and trainers away for DNA investigation and he has been bailed for three weeks.

He has no previous although on the same night the police were called to a chip shop for trouble and he was involved in that as well - we found this out last night whilst he was being questioned!!

I have to agree that he should be locked up if he has done an extensive amount of damage and perhaps then he might learn that his actions arent big and clever.
its about time you and his father started to get some logic and disicpline in his head and keep him away from the idiots hes hanging around with,if it goes to court, you could be made to pay for the damage, sort him out,or he will end up one day in prison.
Your step-son will be made the subject of a referral order. See here:
