why would you need your own crb check - you must know what you have or haven't done? and any company that takes you on trust with your "own" crb check is a bit silly really

Only concerned with FACTS !.

Unlike my subject access infomation I have had from New Scotland Yard,I understand that the enhanced disclosure show's everything.

By everything I mean Police attendance to your house, arrest without charge, sample and photograph taking even if not used in a charge and or a conviction, plus a whole host of other Police activities, which may include aspects of surveillance.

The point is ALL my convictions are spent under the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974, however the extra information gathered by an enhanced disclosure will show me in perhaps a different light.

Anyone that has been arrested and not charged, or had the Police go to their house, has this type of information on there disclosure.

Thats why I want to see the full information the Police has on me ?

criminal records will never be "spent" for an enhanced disclosure - they will always appear because jobs that require an enhanced disclosure are exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders act. , so yes, you are right that an enhanced check will show more. I think it will also show allegations that have not be proven against you.
I would guess the only way to get a CRB check is to apply for a job or voluntary position that you dont want and are never going to get

The Enhanced Disclosure will show everything that is relevant to the position being applied for.

Convictions that are 'spent' will still be shown on an ED. Have you a conviction, spent or otherwise, for.......? is an exempt question from the RoOA where EDs are concerned.

As regards 'intelligence information' - what you call 'extra' - this will be included where relevant to the ED as determined by IIRC a senior local police officer (Supt?) They determine relevance.

Only in some instances will an ED show significantly more than a SAR.

Obtaining an ED is not a guarantee that you will get to see every bit of 'information' that the authorities may have on you.

To get an ED you need to apply for a post/position with a registered body either in the commercial or voluntary sectors, e.g. teacher in a school or youth worker/leader in a voluntary organisation.

For the commercial sector you are likely to have to pay for the ED; there is no charge in the voluntary sector. Either way neither will be too happy if they suspect you are using them merely to gain an ED for other purposes. Furthermore, to reduce costs you will have to go a long way down the recruitment/interview process - maybe even to the offer of a job/position - before the request for an ED is made. Someone who is not serious about applying will likely be found out very early in the process. Do not waste people's time and money!

Not only does he work for the government but it's a department that deals with data transfer software that gives other countries governments access to our criminal records. Surely he could get this info himself in a matter of seconds?

There are three levels but most employers go for the standard or the enhanced check. I have just had mine back and they sent off for an enhanced as I will be working with children on a voluntary basis. And I'm afraid as everyone else says no you cannot check yourself. The crb is an individual company who does the checks on people's behalf. Everything that is on the police national computer in england and wales will be listed on your records they hold apart from scotland they have their own seperate check system. The only way to get one done is for an employer to do one for you. But again you should know if they hold any info on there as it records everything from cautions to convictions. Good luck in getting one done.

In response to all those posing the question "Why would anyone want a CRB check on themselves ?"

Has it not occurred to them that a self employed person who, for example, wants to visit old people in their homes for gardening / cleaning / shopping assistance etc. etc. or may want to work as a children's entertainer., may want to be able to satisfy relatives that they are CRB checked.

I also do not think that applying fr a job that you don't want is a good idea. Most CRB certificates will state that it is only applicable whilst the subject is in the employ of the person or organisation carrying out the checks.

Finally, I am, once again, saddened and disappointed at the stupid and unpleasant remarks that these sites seem to attract. PLEASE, if you do not want to leave a sensible or useful comment. do not leave ANY.

What if someone ex employer for example has lied about you to cover their own back, where do you stand then ?

I know first hand this happened to me ,

but now i wonder if I was to need a CRB check what would it say ?
Is there any way I could clear my name if they have lied in such a way I would fail a CRB check ?
