i paid off an account with great universal manchester a few months ago. In August an item called "identity theft appeared on it at 6.99 along with payment protection total 14+ i phoned and left online messages to say i knew nothing about this and asked for it to be removed, they sent me a copy of what looks like an old signature for a FREE credit check. i have tried for weeks to get this taken off my name and finally they said they would do. on sat 27th sept i received an e mail from GU to say i had bought the item again at the cost of a further 6.99 so now thay say i owe 21+. i have sent an email to consumer direct and i have threatened them with the police as surely this is fraud to put items against a person's name?

Your free credit check you signed up to was probably an arrangment where you could try it for a month then it would continue for a fee unless you cancelled it . So if you didn't cancel it on time you'll owe something. They shouldn't have charged you again though now you've cancelled
I meant to add.... police won't be interested!
