Anyway, if you made a statement that was true, why would you now want to retract it? As chris points out in your original question, if you retract the statement you could be facing a charge of perverting the course of justice (more serious than wasting police time).
i dont understand how the police are using you - you must have made the statement, and you have already said it is true so they are just making sure a potential offender follows the protocols to give them justice. just because you don't want them to go back to prison dosen't mean they shouldn't, especially if the gt convicted of a violent crime - who knows, i could be their next victim!
