Tag circumstances

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows the circumstances in which a person can recieve electronic tag? my boyfriend is currently serving a 9 month prison sentence for wounding with intent. Is it likely he will get tag? he has previous convictions but no previous prison time and has also tried to apply for calm courses and witness awareness courses which they have refused him due to being "low risk" catagory. he has a job and home to come back to but due to the seriousnes of the assult is this still likely? thanku
