advice need re leaking roof
Wondered if anyone can give me some advice. I noticed the other day a damp patch on a downstairs wall, the bedroom above is a spare room which we rarely go into. When I went up stairs I noticed the wall paper was hanging off the wall and the wall was soaking wet. when I pulled the paper all the way off, some plaster fell and notice the wall was all bubbled where the water had been coming in. We had a problem there several years ago and had 2 roofers came and sorted it out. When we contacted our insurance company they sent someone to visit and have said that they won't cover it due to it being patched. We are unable to get in contact with the roofers (not sure if they have gone out of business etc. But we are now left with a soakin wet wal with plaster coming off, my Dad who is 76 is worried the ceiling is going to fall with the next down pour of rain.

Faulty workmanship (if that is what they are alleging) is not usually a peril. I would ask the insurer to tell you which exclusion under the policy they have referred to when refusing your claim - this might give you a starting point to appeal from. Sometimes the people on call centres at not that up to speed with their own policy cover - so dont take any generalised waffle - as for a clear precise answer in writing.
