I was stopped by the police and informed that i my vehicle had no insurance. However my bank details show that my insurance premium is getting paid monthly and accepted by the insurer. My insurance company claimed they cancelled it a week ago as i had not sent documents to them. They claimed that they were sent cancelation documents viarecorded delivery. Nothing has ever been signed for or recieved by me. Do i have a valid point to contest this at court as i do not feel i am responsible for this offence? The first i heard is when i was stopped by the local constabulary.

If i was found guilty for any reasn at court, i have 6 points on my licence, if i got six more would i get a ban or not ??

It is not strictly true that you will receive a ban through totting up if you get to 12 points. This is a matter for the courts to decide. You can raise your mitigating circumstances and state the reasons you need to keep your licence and then the courts will decide what to do with you. They may just give you 5 points to take you to the 11 or they may give you the full 6 but allow you to keep your licence.

As for the offence though I am afraid it is complete. It is your responsibility as a driver to ensure that you are fully legal.

Damn unlucky though and you MAY have a civil case against the insurance company to claim any fees.
What documents do the insurers say you haven't sent them?
You say you haven't signed the cancellation docs- has anyone else signed in your house on your behalf?
I meant has anyone else signed to confirm receipt of the cancellation docs
