i have applied for a bus job at heathrow the recruitment agency has said that once i get the job i should send my standard disclosure form if i have a criminal record would they still give me the job i have told them i have no criminal record at the moment and i will be paying for the check to be done after i get the job

If you got done for lifting a tin of salmon from Tesco ten years ago, they might let it go, but running packages for terrorist organisations may give them cause to reconsider your employment in that job.

I see from your other posting that your criminal record, plus a previous sacking, is preventing you getting a job on the busses. If you lie and then after you start the CRB check reveals your lie and your criminal record then there is a good chance you will be dismissed immediately. This sacking will make it even more difficult to secure a job in future.

If your conviction is spent - ie over 5 years old and for a minor offence, then you have no requirement to disclose. There are however some excluded professions. For example, you would never get into working with children with sexual offences proven against you - even driving a school bus! Equally, the police force might take a dim view if you applied!
However, a good guide is the seriousness of the offence, and how much time has passed, since conviction.

Your answer is slightly incorrect. If you were sentenced to less than six months in prison your spent conviction period is 5 years. Should you have been sentenced for more than six months and up to a year then your spent conviction is 10 years. Should you have been sentenced to prison for over a years term then your conviction is never spent.
