my problem now is that the wife is convinced it was me and because she has never been to court before she is convinced that me driving at 47mph in a 40 is going to get her a jail sentance!! lol
anyhoo....... can she just send a letter into court or does she have to appear?
im taking the points cus she's a wuss!!! :¬/

As long as someone admits to driving, pays the fine and accepts the points, the courts are not too fussed about it - unless they suspect someone is avoiding a tot-up ban.
You should plead guilty by letter - check out the details of the letter advising you of the offence - you don;t have to attend court.
Some police forces offer you a 'speed awareness' course if you haven't had one in the last three years - it costs £60, but you avoid the points, so check out if your local force offer it, and sign up. If they do, you'll be sent an offer to attend through the post in a few weeks.

yes. first of all you get a letter sent to the registered owner with the time, date, place of the offence. It also asks who was driving the car.
you then get a letter sent to the named driver (if driver was different to owner) asking them to verify if it was them
you then get the fine and need to send off the cheque and both parts of your licence.
you get 28 days to return each stage, so you can delay the payment by nearly 3 months! LOL I've been caught twice since May so am somewhat of a 'repeat offender'

boxtops your right..... i have often wondered about criminals on tv shows and shouted as loud as could that they must be guilty because they didnt know where the were between the hours of so an so on a tuesday afternoon in june, however, me and the wife cant recall where we were or who had the car on this day!
but as im the only one who drives it 5% of the time we (she) have come to the conclusion it was me driving!! lol

When I was "caught" a coupla years ago, the letter included a link you could check online. That then showed a pic of the car, including number plate and the driver as I recall, with details like speed. I blew the pic up a bit and it was clearly me.
For doing 47 in a 40, I'm surprised you haven't the option of the SAW course as andy-hughes said. Sure mine was 48 in a 40 and I did the course.

No 'evidence' is required to be supplied until you have entered a plea to a court.
If you are requesting photos do not use the word 'evidence', best just to say 'in order to verify the identity of the driver'
Have you returned the S172 form specifying who the driver was? Who is going to court? On what charge, speeding, failure to furnish or both?
If you deliberately lie then you may be hit with perverting the course of justice and for that you will do jail time.
