recently i have been fired for suspect of illigal substance without any proof. now i have found very difficult to get job because of bad reference from former empoloyer. can they give bad referance without any proof. what shall i do.

No they can't give a bad reference as even if you were a murderer there could be comebacks on them. They'll either say standard safe stuff or nothing.

You need to know if there is ANY shred of evidence that they may present to bolster their case against you. Is There?
Were you fired for gross misconduct? Based on what?
If absolutely no evidence .. screw them over for unfair dismissal.

I know someone who was sacked and Tesco wouldn't even interview him for a night time shelf filling job.

So the co-workers gave evidence against you and you were sacked on their word, without evidence? What sort of job do you do, do you have a written contract of employment?

employers can't give bad references anymore , they can only refuse to give one , have you not got any other reference to use , i would go down that track especially without proof , i have done it my references on my c.v are ones i have used for last 4 years , even though had 4 jobs after i worked with them but they still give me the references i need
