I stuck 4 stamps on an envelop then proceeded to make a mess of the address. I cut off the stamps to stick on another envelope but a collegaue informed me that because the stamps are obviously on a different background, Royal Mail will assume that they've been used so my item won't get posted (or there will be a fee). Is this right?
I think it just depends on the particular person who handles the item - some are very lax and others stick to the rules. Not sure if there are any rules regarding this situation, however.
I've cut stamps off an (unposted) envelope and stuck them on another one and posted it. It got there OK. I was careful to cut right up to the edge of the stamps, so that the previous envelope paper didn't show.
Thanks guys. In hindsight I should just have stuck a label over the address I messed up instead of cutting the stamps off. It's four 62p stamps so don't want to lose out.
