None of my friends or members of my large extended family have ever had tattoos but when I was on holiday abroad I noticed that by the pool almost every man, and quite a number of women, had tattoos. They seem to be very popular now and I can't understand why
my daughter's year at school has spawned quite a few tattoos. she's in 6th form (aged 17), but some of them were getting tattoos at 14 (one with parental approval!).. and it's not a chav school.
It is not an offence to "have" a tattoo below the age of 18. It is an offence for a tattooist to administer such a body modification to a minor unless performed for medical reasons by a duly qualified medical practioner or by a person working under his direction.
My son has a lot of tattoos and came home long before he was 18 with his first one. I did not like it and would not have given permission if I had been asked. But what do you do once it has been done? Sue the tatooist? Who would no doubt have had all sorts of excuses to justify what he had done. A policeman friend said to me once 'If someone did that to me I would have him for GBH' Well - there you are!
Good to hear what people have to say, I must say I hate tattoo's, abusing/defacing one's body IMO.,..though each to his own. It's just that when they are done there's no going back, even removal leaves some sort of mark. I just can't understand why people do it and I certainly wouldn't give my consent to a child having one. Terrible to me that people are just like sheep....I think it's ridiculous they have to follow the crowd just because they feel they don't fit in.

What a stupid comment to make, so you never follow any fashion trends? many people have tatoos that no one ever sees but themselves and for many different reasons.
Thanks Ratter, my opinion that's all, tattoo's are as you say a fashion/trend, but most fashions change, once you have a tattoo you can't change your mind where you can change your mind about most trends. IMO one is marked for life just because of following this fashion....imagine all the old wrinkly skin when they get old and what this fashion will look like then.
Why would I be "stuck up" just because I have an opinion which clearly differs with yours? Aren't we all allowed our say and to state our opinions or do we all have to follow yours and others who don't like comments that differ from their own?
This is why you have to be 18! its a step many people will regret but it is their decision, I have tattoos, I had them when I was 18 I'm now 53, I don't regret any. live and let live, you don't have to try to humiliate people just because you disapprove of them!
