employer looking at the websites that are visited..

My new employer has said that on a monthly basis he checks the server to see what websites people have visited to make sure people are doing work - which I understand, however, if I am working from home, using my own wifi, and just going on the net [not via the server as I would in the office] can he still see what I'm looking at? I'm not looking at anything dodgy, just the usual got five mins to spare so have a browse websites [twitter, facebook etc] I some time also use the laptop in the evenings to do online shopping etc

But they could check your browser history on the computer and that would show where you've been, unless you clear your history.

You may also be breaking your IT acceptable use policy by using a work laptop for anything other than work purposes.

no he's not my Internet service provider. & he has said that its ok to check personal e-mails etc, but I use it for MSN in the background as well

Who's computer is it?
It is possible to install software that allows remote access.

If you're using a separate internet provider and not surfing on a virtual desktop he can't see it.
