Prescription charges for 16 year olds

My son is aged 16 and left school last week. He is not intending on going into further education but is not yet in employment does he have to pay full prescription charges? Many thanks

Yes, unless on income support or income-based job seeker's allowance, or if he has a medical exemption certificate.
I expect it will go off family income and whether he meets any of the criteria on the prescription form for free prescriptions. When I was unemployed I got contribution based JSA but still had to pay for prescriptions.
he;s too young for state benefit if he still lives at home though isn't he?

thanks everyone he can't claim any benefits until age 18 if he lives at home. heaven forbid he's still looking for a job then. Just wondered because his child benefit and tax credits are still payed until the end of August . thanks again
you still get free prescription till sept as that the end of the school year and he is class as still at school till then
if he stays in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland prescriptions are free
He can apply for an HC2 certificate
come live in god's own land..we ALL have free prescriptions !!!
