but police cells are different to prison cells you dont have electricity in police cells than you do in prison and you wont have as much freedom in a police cell
As Chris says, initially they'd be held in police cells, shortage of electricity or not. There are also military establishments that are mothballed right now that could be made ready for low-risk prisoners fairly quickly.
When there was a short-term shortage of prison space a few years ago, they did charter a ship and use that for a while.
And yes, about 25 years ago, when the prisons were full, they had to release some prisoners early to make room for the ones who were waiting.
Heard on the news this evening that they are considering re-instating 2 or 3 to a cell because the prison population is currently so large.
I believe it had something to do with some riots we had recently.
take out all the comfy chairs and tv's from the cells and fit triple bunks on each wall of the cell and you should be able to fit nine people into each cell which would get rid of the space problem straight away. Before the liberals amongst you get on your high horses about human rights think about this, if they didn't commit crimes they wouldn't be in that situation. Prison should be a punishment not a holiday camp.
