// The watchdog said the incident could amount to a criminal offence of common assault and that it should have been referred to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

However, the six month time limit in which such a prosecution could be commenced had already passed by the time this appeal was lodged.

Nevertheless, the IPCC said the officer's actions had "fallen below the standards of professional behaviour" and said he should be subject to disciplinary action.

The watchdog found that Mr McIntyre was struck with a baton at one point but it could not find out which officer was responsible. //

Perhaps the rioters forgot to bring their wheelchairs.
The Manchester police were involved in some instant justice with the recent rioters, though what happened to this person doesn't seem right at all.
From what I heard that person in the wheelchair was an activist who causes nothing but trouble.
If the person in the wheelchair needed to be dealt with in such a manner - i.e, was causing trouble that warranted arrest - then what is the problem?

I don't see why the person should be treated differently just because they are disabled.
Was he really disabled, or just using a wheelchair he had borrowed from someone else?

/// Jody McIntyre describes himself as a ‘journalist’ and ‘political activist’. The reality is he is nothing more than a trouble-seeking wannabe thug who gets a thrill from being right in the thick of violent disorder. ///

He is nothing more than a Left-Wing trouble seeking activist, also the journalistic giant, pride of The Independent, The Guardian and New Statesman.

So because he is a leftwing gobshite, it is alright to drag him from his wheelchair? Looking at he film, he was hardly a threat to the police or to public order. And the IPCC say the police actions were wrong. But you don't like his politics, so it is acceptable?
I really don"t know why you continue to "engage" with oldgit - Gromit
he seems to come at everything from a "Might is Right" angle - I have
no time for him or his "views"!
This could be interesting: http://blogs.independ.../08/08/jody-mcintyre/
It appears he could have been inciting others to riot.

Just to clarify,

The IPCC agreed that officers' initial actions in removing Mr McIntyre from his wheelchair and away from a dangerous part of the demonstration were appropriate in the circumstances.

However, the IPCC has concluded that, when an officer dragged Mr McIntrye along the ground, towards the end of the incident, this did amount to excessive force. The IPCC believes there was an indication that a criminal offence of common assault may have been committed and the matter should therefore have been referred to the CPS.

The IPCC also found that the MPS were right to conclude that Mr McIntyre was struck by a baton but that it could not find a case to answer against any particular officer for the strike. (accidental strike).
was it more likely that one of the coppers thought he was due a"Shoeing"
exdc?
Doesn't seem to be the case To-Ryscum.
It would seem to me that if Mr. McIntyre objects to being subjected to police force, he shouldn't be putting himself in the front line of any protest.
Well he certainly needs to adjust the way he conducts himself Amy
exdc are you saying that because he is in a wheelchair he should stay in the house and keep his mouth shut
are you saying that he should never go on any demo in case they police feel like they want to break a few bones

are you saying that because he has a disability he should keep out of sight
No, to all three, Dr
>> Well he certainly needs to adjust the way he conducts himself <<

sounds like it to me

when you are in a wheelchair the person will push you from behind so you will always be in front of someone
Thanks Dr, I did wonder how wheelchairs worked.
the modern yuppie ones have a little electric motor to help them get to demo's
