I'm in the process of applying for a course grant. In the taxable income section I have nothing to declare but I'm unsure whether capital gains should be included in 'other income'. I thought that technically capital gains were not classed as income? I asked Student Finance but the woman said not to include it and then she said I should so I'm baffled. TIA

Are you referring to question 9 (part c)?
capital ga.ins are not income and are taxed in their own right
When did the capital gain arise? It may fall outside the time period covered by the form.
Anyway, I can't see a reference to it on the form on any of the sections asking about income- it lists lots of other categories but not UK capital gains

Thanks to you both. Yes Factor, I think it was Q 9. The gains were by way of distributions from a liquidated company and have been staggered over a period of 12 months. I can't see any reference to it either. I rang them again to speak to someone else and person I spoke to sounded very unsure but told me to include it as other income.
I looked through here but couldn't find anything
