Cheapest sites to trace ancestry
7 Answers
I'm tracing my England/Wales and Northern and Southern Ireland ancestry. What are the cheapest sites to do this. The cheapest site I have found in Southern Ireland want 7 euros just to look at a page even if it's a hit or a miss if it's the right people.Surely there are some cheaper than this.
Thank you in advance

When I was looking year ago they were looking for volunteers to input stuff online for people to look at, also I think there is resistance from the church over there with regards to Baptism/Wedding registrations, I don't know why.
http://www.rootsireland.ie/ Try this one, it's non profit making apparently.

This one is free http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
Hi As ChattyKathy says the National Archives are a good place to start, both the 1901 and 1911 census are no line and free. After that it is a little more difficult, because a great deal of Ireland's state records were lost in the Customs House during the Civil War.However if you can trace your family to a County you will get some help,at a cost, from local heritage offices. For example there are two such offices in Co Mayo, one for the North and one for the Suth of the county. There is no resistance from any Church body in Ireland that I am aware of to the collating of such information,It is simply an issue of cost and time in an Ireland strapped for cash.
