Not sure where to post this so am trying here. Having Googled someone's name it came up with several sites and then one where it said "name, address and telephone number". Clicking on that I saw the entry in the electoral roll and it has the name of the person and others in that household. By joining the site you can find out more.
I then Googled my name and found exactly the same and yet I've ticked the electoral roll for details not to be made public (or words to that effect...I thought). Going into the "gubbins" of the site I see you can download and print a form from them (CO1 Record Correction Form) and send it through the post or fax it whereby completing the details you want removed they will do it and not include further information.
My question is...would it be safe to send the completed form to them? It says on the heading that the The Data Protection Act lays down principles governing the use of data held on computer. Apparently they respect privacy and will remove your Electoral Roll details from their database upon receipt of this form.
Do you think I should do this as I DO want my details removed? Thanks for your comments in advance.
No I know that Sandy, but I want them removed off of the SITE that is displaying them (not the electoral roll itself which obviously the council has sold the details of...and yes I know they are entitled to!!) The form, if I complete and send will, they say get the details removed from their site.
you have the option to opt out of the publicated electoral roll, however your details will still be available but only by personal request. you will not be findable by an internet search.
there is an opt out box you can tick when you fill out your electoral form.
Thanks Cazz yes I did do that, so cannot understand how this site has got the details. Even checked friends and family names on it and they are all there! You just have to join and pay for information which I'm sure some people aren't adverse to doing.
