Hi,

I have recently had some "girl" on facebook sending me private messages about my boyfriend having one night stands with various girls at his work.. I dont think it is true but I am really getting upset by her messages. Can I report it to the police and can they do anything? I am not friends with this person, I do not even know her, I suspect she is someone wanting to cause trouble and hiding behind a fake profile (if this can be done!) I dont know if this is slander or not but it is certainly upsetting. Can the police do anything?

Just block her and ignore it. Do you know who it is?
Not really.
It must be upsetting but I'm afraid that you'll just have to learn to ignore her.
its may be seen as harrasment, but why not change your settings so that people who are not friends cannot see your profile or send yn her completely and she wont see a thing that you write elsewhere.
Block her and set your setting to private. This includes anyone not on your friends list not being able to send you messages.
for "send yn her" read "send you messages. Better still just ban her"

Its upsetting but Im guessing it would be very difficult for the police to find out who it is! I have an idea who might be behind it (his ex) but the messages come from somebody who I have never heard of. I will go into my account and have a look at making myself as private as I can and block this person. Thank you for your advice.

Isn't it 'libel'?
No, it`s not libel. Libel is when something is said to a wider audience such as printing in a newspaper or broadcasting something via radio etc. There`s no such thing as a slander law either.
It might be wise to put your settings so that only your friends can send you messages, I've done this for my kids. That way if another dodgy profile is set up they won't be able to send you a message.
I believe slander is spoken; libel is written.
