I got caught shoplifting the other day, Will it affect when I apply for post study work visa?
I was caught shoplifting at a retail shop the other day.
I was shopping and met a friend inside the shop. we were talking and i came out of the shop not realizing i had a pair of reading glasses in my hand. a security officer came and pointed it out and i was literally shocked. they understood what happened because if I wanted to steal it i would have hid it in me not carry it in my hand.
However they called the police and police issued me a fixed penalty of £80 which i paid the next day.
I'm a student living in the UK, what i want to know is, I intend to apply for post study work visa in two months. in that case would this incident have any effect on my visa application?
it would be very helpful if anyone could give me an answer on this
Thank you

they have to prove "intent" to be a theft charge.......many folk make mistakes and they have to offer the proof such as the way you were behaving on the CCTV footage. You were daft to accept this if you were genuinely not guilty.
Yes, as you stand, you are potentially in trouble. I would take advantage of a lawyers pro bono time or the Citizens Advice and explore this if I was in your shoes.

What you have is a 'Fixed Penalty Notice' (FPN) it does not give you a criminal record.
So, when you apply for the visa, if there is a question saying '' Do you have any criminal convictions?'' you can truthfully answer ''No''
You can also answer ' No' if you are asked if you have convictions for employment or in other situations.
The only time a FPN may show up is if you ever need an enhanced CRB disclosure , then it is possible (but not certain) that the FPN will show up on it.

I once had a handbasket of stuff at the checkout and struggled to pay without dropping the pack of kitchen rolls under my arm which neither I nor the person on the till thought about until I was through the door. Glad our friendly security guard wasn't on duty. Can I add "im" should be "I'm" to the list of his errors, what they call in the trade a BOGOF, apostrophe and capital letter ignorance.
