If the tax man is after someone for unpaid tax (quite a large sum) would they check out any info they receive about this person? And would they follow it up?

probably, but as you are being so unspecific i don't know. If they recieved info they wore green knickers on a friday, i doubt they'd be interested, or check it out. However, if you catch someone looking up your skirt on a friday, who knows
like check their accounts ? They can only go back 3years accounts.

Tambo - they can go back as far as they want...!!

Bednobs - Like work details, cash in hand details, etc etc....

Just had a visit today, from someone asking me this info. Thought I would ask here....I also have an interest in the answer :-)
aha! but did someone try and look at your knickers?

Daily....and it's bloody annoying!!!!!
If this is your problem, you should see an accountant, as there is far too little information here, and you can only get reliable advice if you disclose the full story.

If you're thinking of giving information about someone, be very careful.

Not me :-)

What info do I need to say?

I know the tax man was looking for this person as they were knocking on my door a few years ago. I know the tax man is still looking for this person as they've been knocking on my visitors door recently (not sure how recent)

so are you going to give info regarding said person ?
Depends how much - if it's £6billion they'll probably be let off like Vodaphone were.
If you want to help the taxman and avoid getting involved, there are confidential 'phone lines where you can give information

Is there a reward for denouncing people?
The VAT people are pretty slack - I've been to creditors' meetings where there was 6 figures VAT owing, and they didn't even attend

Thanks Venator for the link...

Sandy....this isn't about grassing someone up!
If this were benefit fraud people would be insisting you grassed the person up ummmm, funny how the attitude changes for tax evasion.
