The Dewani South African Murder

Remember the honeymoon couple who went to SA and she got murdered. The hubbie eventually under suspicion and now under a possible extradition to South Africa for trial.

I didn't known whether to put this under Law, Media or News, but then thought News would have most coverage.

Well as you may have seen, the Beeb is advertising its Panorama coverage for tomorrow night showing CCTV footage and then saying it may have new evidence that impacts on the case.

I would have thought that this is a complete travesty of justice both here in the UK and South Africa and if they really have such evidence then it ought to be submitted to the appropriate authorities first and the judicial path properly followed, not trying to impact on public opinion as if we were some form of kangaroo court, - whether Dawani is guilty or not guilty.

Is the BBC stepping the mark legally and as to its impartial constitution?
Is this positioning of fair treatment and impartiality, long a tradition of the BBC, gradually being eroded?

I saw an ad for this the other day and thought, should they really be putting this on before the blokes been on trial.

It will be interesting to see if it is a biased in one direction as promotion makes out.

Just a thought, maybe the Beeb want to bring any info out into the wider public to make sure it's heard.

It will probably be netural tho. (Well, I hope so)

I seriously hope so too, as I question their "ethics" behind this - almost shades of the Foxy Knoxy case in the TV influencing, rightly or wrongly, the nature of the evidence to be presented.

To me that is wrong - share with the authorities what has come to light, let the judiciary take over, and then make the programme - but, of course, it is not so "commercial" - and this is our Beeb doing this.

You don't need a court case to decide his fate. From evidence shown so far he's as guilty as hell. His payment to the actual murderer, his feigned mental illness, the video footage all point to his guilt. The sooner he is repatriated to South Africa the better for justice.

rov - apparently the footage shows that the South African involved in the set up was arranging a murder of tourists long before the Dewani's were at their hotel, and even when they were in the air........indicating that Dewani is not guilty.

Whatever, surely the "evidence" ought to go to the police/lawyers/courts first and their due process, rather than "trial by TV"

I've seen a press report with some very dodgy grainy photos which seemed to indicate that he's guilty.

shouldn't be trial by the BBC, but i confess having seen other documentaries, i do think he is guilty, but one should let the judge, jury decide.
