can you please tell me if it is legal for a neighbour to put up a cctv camera. it overlooks the back of a communal car park from his bedroom window within a gated community. the guy had a scrape down the side of his car so wonder if he thought it had been done in our shared car park. we feel a bit intimidated knowing we are being watched by 'Big brother'.

Both are sad lives but the difference is lazyness. If It was wrong to be seeing what was going on out your own window then they should ban people having windows and ban them from even going out there! I don't see why someone can say it's illegal unless it's filming and a private area where no one can see from a window anyway. That's why having sex in public places is illegal insted! People put cameras up to feel more secure about there lives and propety and it may deter thifes and vandles more if they know there being watched!
Sorry was doing some research.

See the bit for FAQ. Looks like there's not a lot you can do about it.

we all had a letter from the community manager this morning who said that it was against the lease and also if you can see a satellite dish. obviously someone has complained. No, it wasnt me thank you! we think it could be when they take the heavy communal bins out early morning, another car got dented. Failing that, his girlfriend no longer takes the car to work so maybe it was done there or perhaps she did it, didnt tell him the truth so who knows. whatever, its opened up a can of worms now. i dont know whats worse really, thinking you are being spied on through a window whenever or knowing you are being watched all the time with a camera there. We await to see what happens now, there will be a charge + vat for every letter that goes out to the culprits now.
