I got the keys to my privately rented house today and noticed there wasnt a washing machine. It stated in the contract that there was one.

I called the agents and it looks like someone has made an error while making the contract as she said there wasn't one supplied to the previous tenants and she doesn't think it's meant to have one.

She said it was unlikely the landlord would be willing to supply one but can someone advise on the contact issue. If it says in there there will be a washing machine, will they have to supply one?

If it's in your contract they have to supply one. Their error and they're probably hoping you'll let it slide as you're now in, cheeky bastards. Don't let them get away with it.
What if, at the end of the tenancy the landlord turns round and says "where's the washing machine, the contract clearly states there was one".
Tough on them then you have signed a contract as have they so the terms and conditions are binding on all sides, the mistake is either theirs or the estate agents not yours. Stick to you guns and refer to Citizens advice or see if you can get a free appointment at a sols some do a 20 min free session from time to time. Good Luck.
Do people not do inventories in the UK?
Just ridiculous. We were told the garage was inc in our rental property only to find out on day moving in it wasn't! Agents are useless! Stand your grounds and insist there is one put in or else they have broken the terms of th contract

Thanks for all the answers, seems they need to go and get ms a washing machine then.

They do very detailed inventories but it was a mistake in the contract so the inventory is irrelevant.

It is annoying isn't it Nosha. Something like a garage could be the reason you'd chose one house over another. You can use mine if you want, I doubt I ever will. I haven't even looked which on it is yet. Lol.

I'll wait to hear back from them tomorrow but I'm very very happy with the house otherwise and I dont really want to start a battle.
