Holiday abroad good for a disabled person?
5 Answers
We recently returned from an awful holiday. The travel agent phoned their special assistance line and said the hotel was suitable for disabled guests so we took their word and booked it.
The hotel was a total nightmare, steps everywhere, high decking around the pool, 2 poxy lifts for an 8 floor hotel (one was always broken so we were waiting on average 25 mins for the lift!). We complained to the hotel and they offered us a room in the sister hotel but that was no good as there were 5 steps upto the room. My husband couldn't get himself a drink and had to rely on us all, he was so miserable and wanted to come home.
We have made an official complaint to the travel agent. Since returning, we've read a review on trip advisor (somebody had been there with a wheelchair and found it a nightmare), the hotel responded saying they are not suitable for disabled guests. It also says that on their own website. It's totally the travel agents fault!!
We'd like to go away next year, can you think of a place you've been that would be suitable for a disabled guest within a 3 hour flight of the UK? Many thanks :)

Also try http://www.disabledaccessholidays.com/ they are cheaper than enable holidays. My wife is a wheelchair user and we have used both without any problems. when I use companies like Thomson,Airtours etc,I always e-mail the hotel to ensure that they are disabled friendly and have bathrooms with wheel-in showers.
I recommend the following..
Concord Delux Hotel Lara beach Turkey.(Our best holiday ever) going back soon.
Sol Don Marco Torremolinos Costa del Sol
La Siesta Las Americas tenerife.
Hotel Vulcano ditto
Mar y Sol los Christianos
Sorry they are longer than 3 hour flights except the Sol don Marco.

Thank you for your answers, I knew I could just look online but I would rather go to a place where I know somebody has actually been to.
Thanks Dennis, I'll have a look at those later.
The hotel was in Ibiza, I don't really want to name it until the travel agent has dealt with our complaint. It was in Ibiza, funnily enough it's not in the brochure for next year!
