Hi can anyone help... me and my partner split up in april he moved out in may, he moved into my ready made home 3 years ago and in december he had a claim payout so we replaced sofa, table and chairs, bed, in december we had a different car which wasnt paid out of his claim money but was from payday loans taken out in my name.
when we split he took the sofa table and chairs and bed and loads of other little stuff (which i thought was wrong as for the previous 3 years he had used my stuff which was brought before this relationship began but left me with the car which wasnt going to pass the mot he said it wasnt his problem! ) now he says he want half the money that we paid for the car and that i can either settle it now or hes taking me to court..can anyone give me any advice

Question Author
mine and ive paid all the insurance payments i had a car before we got together hes not even able to drive as he lost his licence, he knows i need the car to get to work and get the kids from school ect
Then you have no problem, Your name on the bill of sale is proof that you own the car.

also if he took the furniture and i kept the car but now hes coming for half the car can i go for half what the furniture was....
I don't know for sure but I have a feeling that you could. I would speak to a solicitor if I were you or Citizens Advice.
Just keep the car and tell him to get lost. I wouldnt even bother about the furniture, get new or ask family and friends if they have any thing going spare, so you can move on with out loads of hassle.
Let him take you to court (personally I dont think he will bother as he is only trying it on).

To be honest he sounds a bit of a waster so you are lucky to be shot of him.
Some good advice given, if I had £1 for every time I have heard threats of court action which is not followed up, I would be very rich by now. If you are satisfied with the financial position as it now is and believe the split to be equitable ignore threats of court action, which will probably come to nothing and get on with your life. There are times when the correct action is to do nothing; this may be one of them.
tell him to bog off....and if he wants to make an idiot of himself in court to go right ahead. and remind him of the costs that it will take him to get there. then....laugh in his face and wander off. he sounds like a complete t*t and you are well rid. if i were in your shoes....i'd double dare him! x
