Singularly.

How illegal is this, or is it something that cannot be proven? Not that I want to "clype", just curious - I thought that is was extremely illegal, and that no multipack cans of juice / crisps / biscuits etc could be sold singularly???

cathfromsaron , the sandwich van man is just buying them from a supermarket and selling them from his van , the manufacturer will never know or care.
Not everything that is printed on packets of crisps or cans of drink should be taken seriously. Some packets of crisps have the word potato printed on them but surely nobody believes that crisps are made from potatoes
Where I worked the local shop stocked the vending machine. Walkers crisps in the machine were all marked multipack. One girl wrote to Walkers about this and their reply was. "Although we don't encourage this practise no law has been broken"
I think that Factor has been reading too may Billy Bunter stories if she thinks that tuck shops are still on the go. They went out with 5s. postal orders and compulsory Latin lessons.
Mick, I have just opened 2 multi packs I have here
1 pepsi max no bar code on the cans

Capri Sun - bar codes on those pack

Cath, how would the shop be in trouble?
Good grief!! Do people actually understand what the word 'illegal' means?

It's commonly accepted that it means there is a Law prohibiting it.

Now, does anyone really think that Parliament would pass a Law making the sale of single cartons from a multipack illegal?
ojread2. I know that selling ciggies in 1s or 2s (loosies as they were called round here) is Illegal and has been since the age law came into force. We used to pay 2d each mind you in 1969 you could get 5 Parkdrive and a 1/2p book of matches for a shilling. My favourites were Richmond tipped 2/6d for twenty, when I could afford them
That's been illegal for years. I used to buy them singularly as well at 2p each. On the way to school none the less! lol

Not sure what selling single ciggies has to do with splitting multi packs tho?
Clype is a wonderful word.
Thanks mike11111, but I've just checked and I'm definitely male.
I've just had a box of TicTacs and they didn't have any individual barcodes on them.
There's absolutely no law against. The purchaser is free to do re-sell the pack in any way they want. You'll notice that most multipack individual packs do not have a barcode, which is the way manufacturers try to discourage selling the individual packets. However, mobile cafes, vans etc sell their stuff over the counter without the need for a scanner, so it's not an issue.

We sell loads of snacks and crisps at my uni shops, restaurants and cafes, most of which have come from multipacks. The only other relevant thing sometimes is that crisp bags for example and slightly less in weight than the individual packs you buy from boxes.

My local Post Office sells packs of pens and pencils with the "Wilko" brand, which they admit they buy and resell from our local Wilkinsons store at a good mark-up. Again, there's no law against it if people are daft enough not to notice
