Jpeg signatures.
Just wondering what you think of these? good or bad idea?
I am thinking of using one of these for contracts for work etc - just occasionally, for convenience as i know some people who have used them in the past with no problems but only with trusted sources and only through private emails
but my mate reckons its 'well dodgy' as the recipient could just copy and paste it anywhere they liked
which is of course true ... but then they could do that anyway by scanning the real signature from original document and make their own jpeg, or simply just copying my signature with a good old fashioned pen - if they should wish too ... either way they have my real signature.. and can cheat it if they wanted to quite easily.
i mean if they wanted to do something with it, the little matter of pen and paper wouldnt stop them.
surely its only an issue if there is a dispute and if they did use it elsewhere the fact that i hadnt actually signed it by hand would be enough for me to deny signing it i suppose?.... plus i'd have the original, so i would know and could prove it if theyd changed anything
I was told about this by someone who had been in the industry a while and they did it regularly for signing contracts when at distance and seemed to think it was fine - so can anyone tell me what the problems it may bring?
am i wrong to try it?
I could just print and post the contracts of course but, as i say, thats not really any safer from someone who is intent on fraud ...is it?
obviously if my email was hacked they may be able to copy it - if they found it - but they could copy any scanned and signed document too couldnt they? and what could they realistically do with it?
i would also add that the one ive done is actually bit different to my usual signature - as advised - a 'work' signature if you like - so no bank or passport office etc etc would be fooled... plus i would delete the actual attachment, and i could ask that they recipient would too, after printing perhaps?
so is my mate just being overly paranoid? or is she right?
should i stick with print and post?
thanks all
