I just found out it's possibly cocaine.

Is this a moral thing as the riders couldn't enhance their riding with drugs or steroids as at the end of the day it's down to the horses performance whether you win or lose at the end of the day isn't it?

If anything i would've thought that being on drugs may have hampered performance as you need to be in full control and focused and i don't think that any aggression from the cocaine would be of help otherwise all the riders would be really laying into their horses to push the last bit of energy from them.

What if he took the cocaine the day before, could he still get banned?

I don't understand why though, as you say with recreational drugs.(Even alchohol, which is proscribed at a much lower rate than DD.)

Riding in races requires alertness and split second judgment. Any drug that depresses or enhances those qualities is therefore banned as either making the user and other riders less safe or influencing the outcome of the race by affecting the rider's performance.

Frankie Dettori is a great jockey who gets a horse to produce its best. However, could it be the drugs that contribute to his awful gimmicky habit of dismounting, by jumping as high into the air as he can, to the terror of these sensitive young thoroughbreds?

Frankie has been banned for cocaine use before,it's nothing to do with performance enhancing.
Kieron Fallon has been banned in the past for using ciocaine as well it's quite a problem in racing(see link)

These jockeys practically starve themselves to maintain their weight so it's easy to understand how they are tempted when they are unable to enjoy food and drink like most of us do.
I knew Frankie many years ago,he's a great chap and a great jockey.

It could also be something to do with him losing his job with Godolphin.
This might have made him take it or been why he lost his job,who knows?

Funny how all these celebs that are cokeheads(half the BBC according to Frank Skinner) are practically worshipped for being druggies by the press but Dettori will be crucified..Double standards.
