Went to a petrol station today, and on every pump there was a hand written message.
"We accept credit and debit cards, a charge of £100 will be levied for any sale under £25"
Surely this can't be allowed??

*Chortlesplutters* as if anyone's going to pay 100 quid for less than 25 quid in petrol
Are you sure you didn't misread it and it said a charge of £1.00
Don't see why it wouldn't be legal, a proprietor is sell anything for what they want can't they?

Whether anyone will buy it though is another matter.
I think they may have meant £1.00, surely?
Are you sure you really saw that ?
Yeah - i think you missed seeing the decimal point
A local shop had flowers out side with a big sign saying 0.99p a bunch.... the owner looked at me like *I* was daft when I offered him 1p for a bunch and said he can keep the 0.01p.
i think i would look at you as if you were a bit daft too chuckie
Lol Chuck.

It was £100.00 a 1 and 4 0's. If I hadn't been on fumes I wouldn't have got any there at all. I asked in the kiosk how they justified it.
The reply was that they had only just had the card machine installed.
I know many places say a minimum spend of £10 is required, fair enough. They don't say they will fine you.
I will be heading that way again shortly (with a full tank) will take a snao of it.
//The reply was that they had only just had the card machine installed. //

I dont see what that has got to do with applying a £ 100 charge
No matter what the sign says this HAS to be a mistake, it will be £1.00 surcharge. Did you actually ask if it was £1 or £100 ?
Question Author
Nor do I. It seemed pretty pointless continuing the conversation with the girl, as she obviously didn't have a clue.
id just drive to another petrol station
I don't understand chuck's post - that's how you write 99p?
Question Author
I would have if I hadn't been concerned about running out, the next one is 11 miles away.
No it's not Boxy. It would be £0.99 not 0.99p.
Chuck was right boxtops ... you're thinking of £0.99
99 pence can be 99p or £0.99

0.99p is .99 of one pence.
and i want my change
