Finding death

Could do with some help on just checking what I have please
Anne Medd 1850 married George Tindall in 1866 in Bridlington. On 1881 census she is shown as single living with John H Lawton with a child, John Lawton Tindall 1875 so Im presuming this is the child of John Lawton who she married in 1887 Bridlington. She is stated as widow on the marriage cert, but I cannot find death of George Tindall between 1866 when they married and 1887 when Ann remarried, apart from a 60 year old in 1879 which seems to be too old for her. On 1871 there is an Ann Tindall 1846 in Sewerby cum Marton, but I cannot clearly read the marital status. It doesnt look like unmarried so could it be widow? If so where is Georges death ? Ann is shown as 37 years of age in 1887 marriage cert to JH Lawton, father is John Medd who I am finding hard to research also
Any help appreciated please. Thanks

My first impressions are that the name Medd is nearly unique to Yorkshire (some strayed into Durham!) and that Ann was a popular choice of first name. Take that and the fact that people weren't always accurate about their age means to me that research must be very thorough in looking at ALL the Ann Medds to make sure they don't get muddled. The Ann Medd above would have been just 16 if she was the one who married in 1866 which is possible but still unusual.
The best fit I found was in the 1851 Census in Church Street, Whitby (piece 2374 Folio 272 Page 16) where you have an Ann Medd with mother Catherine b 1828 Cork, master mariner's wife, both with the Eskdale family: Jeremiah, Rebecca and son James Medd Eskdale. Catherine is described as Jeremiah's sister-in-law, and it looks as if Catherine's husband was Rebecca's brother and away at sea at that time. That always makes research difficult.
I'll come back to this during the day if possible, but may we go back a stage and set out how you came to your Anne Medd and George Tindall?

Sorry I didn't get back to this yesterday - one of those days!
The best Anne Medd I can find was born in Dec 1845 in Bridlington and in assorted census returns appeared with parents John Medd born 1811 and Sarah (nee Stephenson) born 1820 who were married in Mar 1843 in Bridlington. Siblings include William born 1843, Ellis born 1850, Thomas born 1854 and George born 1859. This looks to be a second marriage for John: there was an older son, also John, born 1839 and in 1841 John senior appeared with Mary born 1816.
So if this Anne is correct, she was 21 in 1866 which is more credible. I looked for children for this couple and there were several births: Ada Tindall in Jun 1866, Mary in Mar 1867, Ann in Sep 1868 and William in Jun 1872 where the infant died in the same year. The IGI has a baptism for a Mary Tindall on 3 Mar 1867 in Bridlington, parents George and Ann Tindall [C10586-1]. Can't spot an obvious death for George, there was one in York in Dec 1871 age 40, but he could have died just about anywhere in the country or even in the world if he was a seafarer or in the army etc. Should you get the marriage certificate then there just may be a clue in George's age and occupation which will help find his death.

Rose Maybud, thank you so much. Lots to digest there. Ive since found the marriage on Yorkshire BMD at All Saints, Rudston which is a little village just outside Bridlington, and if I remember correctly there were a few Tindalls in Rudston on the census`. I will look at them closer now. The person Im doing the Tree for isnt bothered about me sending for the marriage cert but Im so curious myself now. I get myself so involved as if its my own family.
Thanks again for your help. May have to come back to this again if needed
