Our local paper this morning "BEWARE SCAMMERS" I have asked this before A.B. can you not have a column to try & help the very Senior in these cruel cases? I gather a lot of Senior' use this site, do you not think it would be a helpful way to advise them? Local here a lot of Seniors have lost a lot of money. " Just a thought"

Talking of scamming, I think a topic item would be good, and have it as a title and not a sub heading which can be hard to find. Then we could all see the latest. I got a phishing email about an hour ago. Purported to be from O2 and just wanted me to click here ... to update my details. There was very poor English in the text and the font changed in the next two lines. Also they used capital O 2 in the address from them, whereas real o2 uses a small letter. However, I can see some people could be taken in.
I have forwarded it to o2 as they request people to do.
listen it's not just seniors is it? kids on facebook are clicking on anything and everything and getting roped into paying for silly gaming that costs , people with paypal accounts get emails that seem genuine, anyone with a bank account can be conned if they are not careful, it's a real problem, the scammers used to knock on your door and ask to read the metre, they don't even need to leave home now
I think that anything that reminds us to be cautious is a good thing. I rarely click or respond to anything I am not 100% certain of without thoroughly researching what it may be.
The problem we always face with this is the name. It needs to be clear about what the topic is for, without making any post within it seem libellous. Calling it "SCAMS!" isn't much good.
I think that there is already lots of information on here and elsewhere about scams (e.g. telephone calls from Microsoft/IBM etc, fake paypal emails) yet many still seem not to be aware of them and get caught out. I think those who aren't aware of scams probably won't refer to the topic in AB until after it's too late.
It won't do any harm I suppose and may benefit some provided it doesn't keep repeating the same scams as M_T intimates.
Maybe someone could just periodically post a link to the main sites that list these scams
If someone suspected that someone was trying to scam them. They would surely post a thread asking for advice, rather than scour through ten/hundreds of threads looking for info on that particular scam?

You dont have to be the subject of an attempted scam to be interested in knowing about the scams going on out there
