good evening

my washing machine spectacularly committed suicide today, after many many years - and so i went to argos on line and bought a new one

i paid the extra for delivery and to take away the old one, and i was wondering if that deal included disconnecting the old one and connecting in the new one - or do they want me to do those bits?

assuming some of you have had a new washing machine from argos recently, i hope to receive a satisfactory response

thank you very much

It should come with the hoses but I dont think they will install it for you unless it specifically says they do.
No, you'll have to dis-connect/connect yourself.
They offer a deliver set up and take away for freezers...if they do for washers it will show in your optional extra bit on site...not much to it though....pay attention to where hoses are connected as you disconnect...and reinstall....most new washers only have a cold feed nowadays...only one hose to connect..plug in...hey presto ! Did mine myself....dimples !
Simples.....predictive thingy...

if you have a blue and red pipe on your old machine and this new one is cold fill you better nip to B & Q and get a capping screw fitting sharpish for the hot pipe.

you aswell, murraymints - thank you

it is simple, yes
Lol@ 'dimples' That really did make me laugh out loud, thanks. :)

Hasn't the hose got a tap on the end that connected to the supply pipe ?
Think we should stick to 'dimples' - much more effective : )
Question Author
both the hot and cold pipes have taps on the end where the hoses connect ... i will simply keep the tap closed on the hot one, if it is no longer required
yes but if you leave the hose there forever it will get all manky as it won;t be being used
He's not suggesting leaving the hose from what I can see dot, just closing the tap on the hot pipe. The hose can be unscrewed and thrown away.
depends where the tap is,

my gratitude to all of you for your comments and observations

the new one arrives saturday .... i shall un plug and wrestle the old one out on friday

Installation is easy, but do read the instructions. Almost certainly there'll be "delivery bolts" to remove and suchlike before use.
Argos do a Deliver Install and Recycle service for washing machines...£8.95

Dont just turn the hot supply off at the appliance tap and leave it ...
and whatever else you do dont try to fit a cap on the end of the hot pipe,
it wont fit as the hot pipe has a female end (so does the cap).

Turn the tap off and then remove the old hot hose by unscrewing it.
The 3/4" cap should then be fitted to the exposed threaded section of the tap.

If the tap lever was then to be hit and released by mistake at a later date ... you wont be flooded out.

Better still ... when the delivery van arrives put the kettle on and make two cups of coffe ... 2 chocolate biscuits and a 3/4" appliance cap on the same plate... guaranteed to work.
