Bags For Life.

Does a supermarket "bag for life" literally mean that? When they wear out can you replace them free?

You would not believe the hassle I had yesterday in Morrisons. The handle had broken on one of mine I'd had for ages, so I casually asked the cashier if I could swap for a new one please. He looked totally puzzled (obviously a new concept for him - no training on that one!) He had to call another assistant who looked equally confused, she had to ring for a supervisor to OK it, then there was a huge palaver over how to key it in as a free item.

Wish I hadn't asked - all that for a 10p bag, thought it would be a simple thing to ask LOL :)

yes....that is the promise they gave. why not just give you one rather than scan it? pathetic....people don't know how to think for themselves anymore.

Well it is a bag for life so I don't know what's so difficult. I heard someone getting one changed in Tesco without palaver yesterday, mind you maybe the Morrison ones are better made so they don't get asked to change them very often.

In Waitrose, you hand over the bags and they hand you the same number of new ones - no fuss. They also accept any other supermarket Bags-for- Life, surprisingly.

Do Morrison's continue to call their stronger carriers bags 'bags for life'? Some stores seem to be moving away from that and simply branding them as 're-usable'.

Assuming however that the 'bag for life' label is still used, a letter to their HQ would almost certainly result in your receiving a £5 gift card. (I'm never slow to complain when there's the possibility of money in it!):

I liked (and have ) one of the fridge magnets that Sainsbury`s used to promote the re-using of bags. It says "Take an old bag shopping". A till worker told me they had to stop them as some people complained that they were offensive.

thats funny 237sj, I take an old bag shopping every week, he's handy for carrying heavy bags, but useless at packing.

and yes, I've swapped bags for life several times when the originals have broken.

I think I have bags for life now Ann, under my eyes. Old age Im afraid. I always use the big bags for life and take them everywhere, one inside the other. I only have a few plastic carrier bags which I keep for emergency uses

I`m not sure I would want to use a bag for life. You buy a wrapped chicken or some other meat and sometimes a bit of liquid drips out. Then you throw your fruit and veg in the bag and voila! You have a bag full of bacteria -ridden purchases.

This is so true. I find people lacking imagination, especially the younger ones. All they do is fudge others ideas, and they are not innovative.
